Accelerated Nature

Filed under: A Better Shave, All Shavers.com Blog Posts — Bogie @ 1:46 pm

Yeah, yeah, so it’s been awhile since my last post. Sue me.

Okay, so I have taken the plunge and now took the reverse approach to fighting male pattern baldness by doing a complete 180 and shaving every last hair instead of trying to rescue the last few stragglers clinging to the sides of my head. If you have a full head of hair, have no plan to shave your head, or still refuse to accept that it’s your shiny head in the mirror, then you can stop reading here.

If you’re still reading then let me tell you this; if you want to take the plunge and use a buffer instead of a comb, then make one last trip to the barber. Tell him (or her) to take it all off down to the skin and have at it. All your worries are now over. And what do you do from that point on? Why, you use an electric shaver, of course!

Now, to clarify, the reason I told you to make that last trip to the barber is because an electric shaver will NOT take your long hair down to the skin effectively. You would most likely destroy the shaver. Another option would be to use your own hair clipper (buzzer), but unless you have one already it does not make much sense to spend $40-$100 for a one shot deal. So let the barber do it and then maintain your cranial smoothness with an electric shaver.

Which one? Thats the question now, isnt it? Topping the list in our test is, once again, the Braun Pulsonic series 7-70 or Panasonic Lamdash models, and the runner-up was the Remington MS680 model. The reason these shavers seemed to do better in tests than other models is solely based upon the fact that they have nice wide heads to cover a lot of surface area at once. This is not to day that they will shave your face better than others (see previous posts for all that info) as these tests for only for bald head shaving.

Now there are many that would say that shaving ones head with a blade is preferable to an electric shaver in that the shave will last longer. To be perfectly honest with you, I did not find that to be the case after testing both ways. When I was done shaving with the electric, I found my head to be just as smooth to the touch as when I shaved with the blade, and I also did not have any risk of cutting my head with the electric razor. Overall, shaving the cranium as well as the face with my Braun Pulsonic was a decent experience. It took no longer than shaving with a blade (and, to be fair, was no shorter on time either) and seems to be an every other day affair for myself, so while there is no longer any hairstyling involved, don’t think that your daily expenditure of time on your head is going to change all that much.

Oh, and lesson learned? Yeah, wear sunblock all over your head.

Two Out Of Three Aint Bad

It’s finally happened.

The heavens have opened. Pigs are flying. Snowballs are not melting in hell.  All that and the fact that Shavetronics finally has another shaver ready for sale. The first attempt came out pretty good with the Weekender double-head pocket rotary shaver. Then there was the disaster of the ST-50 single-head cord model shaver–there will be no need to rehash that here. But now, finally, another success with the “soft launch” of the new ST-100 universal (110-220v), Intercontinental Rechargeable Shaver.

Hallelujah.

What’s the skinny? Well first and foremost what must be said is that this is a POWERFUL shaver. It’s like a freight train across your face so the first piece of advice we are offering with the sale of this unit is to please us a gently touch with this razor. Pressing hard against your face with this machine will dramatically reduce the lifespan of the foil and cutter, and in some cases cause razor burn. Dont press hard.

Another thing we are proud of is the single unit foil/cutter/headframe combo for replacing the parts. Oh sure, you can take the foil and cutters out individually if you want to, but we will be selling the entire unit as a combo to make the swap as easy as possible. And yes, the headframe is one solid unit of metal. Yes, a metal headframe. Try damaging that by tapping on the sink. You’ll break the sink.

The shaver comes with everything you need to get going, so if you are looking for a simple, powerful, easy-to-use shaver with minimal bells n whistles and at a great price, then the Shavetronics ST-100 Shaver is for you.

Available now on Shavers.com.

Quit Pushing!

Yeeouch! You scream as the head of your electric shaver burns against your face, the tiny hole that appeared as if by magic snaring a chunk of skin and leaving you with a scratch/nick/burn on your face that really should not be hurting this much considering its size. You, my friend, have to replace that screen (foil) or suffer further consequences of the ever-growing hole.

Sound familiar? If not, sounds awful, right? Yeah, we know and it happens. Usually after about a year of so we all get the little foil holes that signal a few days of scruffy face while we hunt down or wait for the delivery of a new foil and cutter set. But what about those of you that just bought a new set? Why are you getting a hole in your foil after three months of use? This is getting expensive, right?

While there are many possible reasons that damage can develop on a foil (improper cleaning, banging on the edge of a sink, improper placement of a protective cover, etc…) the most common culprit is the simple fact that most of you (us) push way too hard on your face while shaving. Yep, gone are the days when the strain of two-handed pressure against your face caused neck trauma just in order to get a good shave. With shavers today, a lighter touch will give better results.

It makes sense if you think about it–heavy pressure will force the rapidly oscillating (or spinning–sorry, Norelco) blades to rub up against the inside of the foil day after day. Heat and friction are the surefire enemies of the shaver foil and cutter, and by shaving this way–you’re giving both.

So the advice is–ease up, man! Relax, loosen the sphincter and apply calm, gentle pressure against your face. Let the shaver do the work.

Otherwise, you can just buy a gross of shaver heads from us and replace as necessary. Yeah… we’d like that.

Dreaded Bikini Haircut

Filed under: A Better Shave, Which Shaver Is For Me? — Bogie @ 3:53 pm

And now, a female contribution to this overtly male dominated blog…

Okay ladies, put those scissors down and follow me to the best bikini trimmer I’ve ever found.
And not only the best - but the cost is as low as $14.95. Now how’s that for a deal?

For years, I dreaded the “bikini haircut”. Finding the perfect pair of scissors that were sharp enough and also didn’t pull.
Ouch! Having to eye the length, making sure all the hairs were trimmed. And there’s always that random long hair that you
never see - that unfortunately always shows up at the worst time. Ladies, you know what I mean…

Anyway, the trimmer that I’m referring to is the Remington Trim & Shape Bikini Trimmer - Model BKT1000. The trimmer has 5
adjustable lengths and also trims very close in the places where you decide to make your edges - and this trimmer has never
pulled me. It runs on 2 AAA batteries and for the short time it takes to use - will probably last at least 6 months, if not
more. You just set it at whichever length you want and run it across like a lawnmower. It comes out perfect every time and
only takes a few seconds. So, you better get them while they last.. I’m stocking up and throwing my scissors in the garbage.

Also, ladies - don’t hog this great machine. I tried using one of the body shavers on my boyfriend’s - you know where - I
know - ha ha. But, it paled in comparison to my trimmer. Next time, I’m bringing my trimmer over to do the job and you’d be
doing your boyfriends and husbands a favor if you do the same. He’ll thank you and maybe repay the favor.

Shaving 101

Filed under: A Better Shave, All Shavers.com Blog Posts — Bogie @ 3:19 pm

Gentlemen, I bet you’re all wondering why I’ve called you here today. It’s because of the overwhelming
flood of questions regarding shaving that have been pouring across our phone lines and into the collective
ears of Shavers.com representatives. Frankly, they need a rest from giving the same answers all day long.
Let’s then, take a brief look at shaving, shall we?

Ladies-you have purposely been left out of this discussion for the simple reason that your needs are a
whole different ballgame altogether. We’ll try to cover your most common questions in another entry.

So men, how are we shaving these days? Getting missed spots? Breaking out? Painful or really sensitive
areas? Overall poor shave? Yup, that’s what I figured. I get the feeling that for the majority of you
though, the solution is simple (especially if you are using a “newer” shaver, purchased within the last
4-5 years)…you’re pressing too hard on your face.

“What?!” you exclaim. “Don’t you know that I’ve been using an electric shaver for (insert years since
puberty here) years?!”

C’mon guys! This is not your father’s shaver here! The great majority of electric shavers manufactured
today are specifically designed to work much differently than the dark age shavers of yesteryear. Pressing
too hard with the shaver head against your skin will flatten the hairs into an undesirable position that
will be a detriment to your shaving process. A smooth, slow movement with only minimal pressure is what
is needed here. Let the shaver do the work, let the shaver do the work, let the shaver do the work…

If that does not solve your problem completely then I’m at least willing to bet that it helps a great deal.
Let’s also follow these shaving tips:

  • Shave your sensitive areas first. A cool shaver head will irritate less.
  • Tough or stubborn neck hairs should be trimmed down prior to shaving.
  • Areas of the face/neck that have problems with severe razor bumps or ingrown hairs-DON’T SHAVE THESE
AREAS WITHOUT FIRST ADDRESSING THE PROBLEM. Use a treatment or a specially designed shaver like the
    Remington ES-1000.
  • Rub your face liberally with a frog prior to shaving.

Okay, just kidding with that last one, but a pre-shave lotion or powder stick is highly recommended in
making improvements to any shave. A few adjustments to your routine and following a few simple rules can
turn a bad shave into a much improved one, and a good shave into a great shave.

Thank you for taking Shaving 101… See me after class.

You Don’t Shave On Weekends

Filed under: A Better Shave, All Shavers.com Blog Posts — Bogie @ 3:52 pm

Come on now, admit it. Most of us, yes, me included, somehow manage to “forget” to shave on the weekends. It “slips our minds”,
we “get distracted” or “have a senior moment”. Sometimes we even “want to grow it out” or “had to escape a burning building”. Whatever.

Just be careful about the griping that will be later, come Monday morning, associated with the pulling sensation of individual beard
hairs being yanked from their roots instead of cleanly shaved off like they do Tuesdays through Thursdays.
Let’s also not forget the cumulative effect of these actions, when the time comes to replace your foil and cutter in nine months versus
twelve to eighteen months-don’t say I didn’t warn you. The longer the hair, the more the pounding the shave head takes.

Not that I am trying to dictate facial policy here, my fine gentlemen. Heaven forbid-I equally partake from amongst the weekend excuses
that give us free reign to be facially forgetful. I just want to say that I said it, okay.
There. Now go shave. You look terrible.

Myth! Check please!

Filed under: A Better Shave, All Shavers.com Blog Posts — Tags: — Bogie @ 3:40 pm

Reading in the dark will screw up your eyes.
Walt Disney’s head is frozen so he can someday be revived.
Shaving hair will cause it to grow back thicker and darker.
Holding kittens underwater will drown them.

Although I may have to check again on that last one, these are all untrue, boys
and girls! Myths them all! And guess which one we’re going to talk about today?
Yes, while the angry fans of kittens get in line to give me what-for, let’s briefly
discuss that old B-S that shaving somehow promotes the need for more shaving.

Shaving, epilating, waxing: none of it matters in the slightest. Your hair will
not grow darker, nor any speedier than if you had left it alone. All the variations
of this myth also do not apply; the hair will not get “coarser” or “thicker”, “sharper”,
“chunkier”, nope, nope and nope. How do I know? Because I said so.

So now you can stop emailing us about this myth (you know who you are), because
it is what it is-a myth.

Oh, and by the way, a freight carrier carrying 1,500 tons of raw tapioca nearly
sank when a fire in its hold (and the water used to extinguish the blase) cooked
the cargo and nearly burst the welded seams of the ships hull.
And yes, tea brewed by being left to steep in sunlight (AKA “Sun Tea”) can harbor
dangerous bacteria.
Both are true…scouts honor.

Take a Powder

Y’know all these pre-shave powder sticks that are available these days? Yeah, the ones from
Remington and Parks. Well, there’s a new powder in town, folks. Turns out that all them there
powder sticks are made by one company on earth called “The Powder Company” in Europe (formerly known as
“Bloc”) and that’s a fact.

Now don’t get me wrong-this is a fine product indeed-we’ve been touting them for years. But until now you’ve
been hard-pressed to find one without some sort of perfumed scent in them. So, we now carry the Shavetronics
line of powder sticks called “Pre Shave Powder Stick - Derma Bloc”. Still the same quality hypo-allergenic
compressed powder stick, none of the scent.

Available now on Shavers.com.

Positively Perplexing Pre-Shave

Now that the summer months are well on their way, it’s time to get ready for the hot and sweaty days of shaving.
Many customers ask us regularly as to which is the best pre-shave to use, or if the products actually do
anything at all. The answer is…kinda. Now before the phone calls begin coming in from angry customers and
pre-shave manufacturers, allow me to elaborate.

Just like electric shavers, not every pre-shave is for every face. Personally, the webmaster of Shavers.com
(yours truly) uses a powder stick–usually referred to as

shave stick
–during the warmer months. Powder sticks are
great for setting up the unshaven beard, as the little powder particles coat the hairs and soak up any sweat and oil
that might be holding the hair down on the face.

Lotions (Parks Pre-Aft) are great for year-round use, usually recommended for those of the dry skin–use them
sparingly! Liquids (Williams Lectric Shave) are also good for soaking up the oils on the face before shaving, just as
the powder sticks above, but do require some time to dry on the face before shaving. Do not shave with a wet face unless you are using a wet/dry shaver! Shaving a wet face will
develop a cement-like buildup in the head of your shaver–not cool.

Bottom line - Do you HAVE to use pre-shave? Nope, but give a pre-shave a shot if you’re not getting a good shave during
certain times of the year, and/or, if you’re getting a decent shave, but feel it could be just a little better.
A pre-shave product is an inexpensive way to get more out of your electric shaver, and if used properly, it could make all
the difference to your face.
